RCYC DOG POLICY

The RCYC recognizes that dogs are an extended part of your family and we are pleased to welcome them on our Island property!

Your dog is welcome at the RCYC Island Club property when you agree to these simple rules of dog etiquette:

We ask that all dog owners register for an RCYC tag (permit) for your dog, to be renewed on May 1st of each year. If you are registering your dog for the first time, please fill out a form at City Station. The online waiver is ONLY for dogs that have previously been registered and already have a tag number.

Members may pick up their dog tag at the City Station desk. This tag, to be visibly worn by each dog at all times, ensures that all owners have been apprised of our etiquette, and have signed our waiver.

Members who have obtained a tag for their dog may simply renew the online waiver each year, and use the same tag.

WHEN ON THE LAUNCH:
  • Dogs are to be on a tight leash, kept close to their owners, and boarded at the complete discretion of RCYC Staff or the Quartermaster.
  • Dogs are to be kept off benches, and respectfully away from contact with other Members travelling to or from events on the Island. Dogs are discouraged from entering the cabin of the Launch, except in very inclement weather.
  • Owners are to follow, without question, any direction given from Crew or Captain of the Launch regarding the correct placement of their dog while on board. If asked to disembark last, dog owners will follow direction to do so.

WHEN ON NORTH ISLAND:
  • Dogs are NOT permitted directly in front of, or in the Clubhouse, Lawn Bowling Green, Tennis Courts, Food Service Areas, Pool, or any Club sanctioned event area, at any time, with the EXCEPTION of licensed service animals.
  • Upon disembarking from the Launch, please swiftly transport your dog on leash along the path to Snug Island, South Island, your boat, or your locker, without delay.
  • Please discourage your dog from marking any structure as this will encourage other dogs to do so, and it damages the more formally landscaped areas of the Club.

WHEN YOU’RE HERE WITH YOUR DOG, PLEASE…..
  • Always keep your dog on a leash, as per City of Toronto by-laws.
  • Always pick up after your dog. Bag stations are maintained at four different locations, one on Snug, and three on South Island.
  • Do not let your dog leave its mark on any structure. It encourages other dogs to do the same.
  • Keep your dog under control and quiet. Persistent barking is not considerate of other Members.
  • Not everyone is comfortable with dogs  — please be considerate.
  • Be especially careful around children and other dogs.
  • Keep your dog well away from other Members enjoying meals at picnic tables.
  • If not present on your boat, please ensure your dog is safely and quietly contained in an air conditioned or well ventilated cool cabin.
  • Dogs should never be left unattended above deck, without a responsible person on board.
  • As dog owners, encourage other Members with dogs to follow this etiquette, as the Club reserves the right to withdraw these privileges, without notice or restriction.

Complaint Resolution

Club Staff will follow up with Members with dogs that have not followed our dog rules. Any complaints or disregard for property or other Members will result in:
  •  A verbal warning to the dog owner, asking for action to remedy the situation.
  • Upon a second complaint, the dog owner will receive written communication from the Club, requesting action be taken to immediately remedy the situation.
  • Upon a third complaint, the owner will be asked to remove the dog immediately, their permit will be rescinded, and the dog will no longer be allowed on property.

If an incident is deemed more serious, Staff and involved parties will act immediately and together to ensure safety is restored, and no injury or damage occurs. The Club reserves the right to make immediate decisions regarding any action taken to remove a dog if a situation appears unsafe, either for the dog, or for other Members.
