As mentioned in last week's blog post about boat owner, Paul L’Heureux, Defiant was THE last off the line at Westerly Marine in Santa Ana, California.

This is the story of how Defiant was built, assembled and her journey to Toronto.

The Melges IC37 start by building the tiller first. Below is the vacuum mould for the carbon fibre tiller.

Have you seen what’s on the dock on the front lawn of the Club? You won’t need to blink and try to clear the seeing double, but there’s not one, but two Melges IC37’s that are destined for the Canada’s Cup race this September. 

 

RCYC’s own fleet of boats were some of the last; Defiant was THE last off the line at Westerly Marine in Santa Ana, California. She is hull #35.

As with the rest of the world, plans for events last year were all put off, despite everyone having their fingers crossed that it would happen. Fast forward over 12 months, on September 2nd to 5th, the Canada’s Cup will be hosted at RCYC. 

 

RCYC’s defence of the Canada’s Cup is fast approaching and first, let’s start with a brief look back.
