The Canada’s Cup Defense - SUCCESS

With another late start to the day because of light wind conditions, the team stayed on the Island for most of the morning, which was far better than out on the water trying to keep shaded from the sun.

Going into day three, the team was feeling good, not taking anything for granted and Team Zing was also in top form and ready to take on the day.

With race 6 getting underway closer to 2:30pm, it was a hurry up and wait situation once again.

The Air Show was happening overhead to keep spectators entertained, while the marks were moved to accommodate the shifting wind.

It was an excellent race (which you can see on @TeamRCYC’s IGTV) and a slight nailbiter towards the end as Zing was giving Defiant a run for their money.

Ultimately, Defiant crossed the finish line first and beat Youngstown Yacht Club’s Zing

This is the winning boat that slowly had extra passengers aboard to celebrate as they headed back from the lake, through the eastern gap, back to RCYC.

As they headed back to the Club, Zing came in first to a roaring applause, and congratulations to the challenging team.

With true sportsmanship, as Defiant came back to the dock, Zing team members were there to help them in.

While the Canada’s Cup was on display, ready for the official presentation and acknowledgements, some of the team had a few words to say.

The two accomplished female sailors, Mariah and Ingrid:

The after race antics were no less than you’d expect, so look out for that video in the next blog, followed by two more to round out this series of keeping you up to date!
