LAWN BOWLING

Join us on the Island green from mid-May to October. Games are played Mondays at 10:45 am, Wednesdays at 6:15 pm, Thursdays at 3:15 pm, and Saturdays at 1:15 pm. Bowlers compete in tournaments at home and at other Clubs. We entertain visitors on and off the green. We provide bowls and support for bowling parties. Come out anytime and give the game a try. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm. Flat-soled shoes are required.

From October to May, bring your whites and join in a game of Short Mat Bowling in the Sports Hall at the City Clubhouse.

Our return to the Island is Pat Your Bowls Day, a Saturday in early May. The playing season starts mid-May. Playing ends officially with the Last Bowl Blast on the Saturday of the Last Mast Blast.

The opening luncheon is on the Island on a Tuesday in May. The closing luncheon and Annual General Meeting is at the City Clubhouse on a Thursday in mid-October.

SECTION FEES 2024

May 1, 2024 - August 31, 2024

ADULT: ACTIVE $292   | SOCIAL  $146
STUDENT: ACTIVE $146

Lawn bowling is essentially a very simple game – you simply need to roll your big bowls closer to the little ball (the Jack) than your opponent’s bowls. Doing this well requires skill and finesse, with good tactics and clever strategies required to win the game.

Bowling has been an integral part of the RCYC ever since the Club moved to the Island in the 1890’s. Since that time, the Club has amassed a very nice collection of bowls, so you need not have your own to enjoy bowling.  We invite you to come out to the Island and bowl with us.  We have three options for you.

Saturday Bowling
Join us on Saturday afternoons for classic British Style Lawn Bowling consisting of Open Bowling, Tournaments (with Trophy’s), and three Teas (read PARTY) spaced out during the summer. Bowling starts at 1:15 pm except on a day with a Tea when it will start at 12:45 pm. The Tea follows at the conclusion of Bowling. The Bowling season starts on Saturday May 11 at 12:45 pm with the Opening Tea following at 3:00 pm.  The Tea taking place on August 3rd, is particularly popular as participants compete for the Woodman Trophy and Woodman Wines and Spirits sponsor the Tea.  Note: it is recommended that you protect yourself from the midday sun using sunscreen, hats, and light-coloured clothing (Whites).  Footwear should be flat soled and kind to the grass.

TGIF Friday’s Drop in Bowling
To all the TGIF racers:  If the wind fails to blow come out to Bowl.  For the rest of you, even if the wind does blow, come on out and bowl.  Come, drop in, and bowl (and, maybe, a game of croquet might break out as well). Bowling starts at 6:30 pm.

Wednesday night Bowling League
Following the model of our Racquets house leagues and bowling leagues the world over we are offering a Wednesday night competitive bowling league. Singles and doubles matches will be played with the results tracked culminating in a finals night. Teams and matches will be determined through a draw of the hat and, yes, you can still go on holiday and win as the lowest three scores will be dropped.  League bowling starts Wednesday May 22nd with the final’s night Wednesday September 25.
