Lindsay Davies at the 2018 OptiNAms

My name is Lindsay Davies and this June I competed at the Optimist North American Championships in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This was my second time attending an international event (IODA) so I generally knew what the schedule and racing would be like. The regatta was more challenging for me than last year because the North Americans was at RCYC so I was used to the sailing conditions. I have never been to Puerto Vallarta so it took me awhile to figure out the current and wind patterns.

On the second last day of the regatta, the wind and the waves picked up a lot and I found that day to be really challenging as we did 3 races and didn’t get off the water until 7:00 pm. The very last day of the reggatta we had one race and I had a great start and kept my position almost the entire race but lost a few boats and I ended up in 4th that race. For next time, I would like to train in heavier winds to prepare myself for when the next windy event happens.
