ADF UPDATE: Tate Howell

Whoa! It’s been one busy summer after completing two big events: World Sailing’s Youth World Championship and 420 Open Worlds. The conditions in Corpus Christi, Texas for Youth Worlds were very tough physically, with high winds and lots of chop on top of extreme heat every day. Then we did a 180 after arriving in Newport, where it was mentally tough with light and shifty winds until the last day when we had steady, medium winds.

I am very pleased with my results in Corpus Christi finishing 12th in the world and it was a great feeling leading two legs of a race. In Newport for Open Worlds I wasn’t that happy with my results but grateful to finish of the regatta with our best race (22nd).

Now on to finishing of the summer with a bang at Youth Champs coming up next week where I am very excited to be sailing out of my home club! My goal at the 2018 Youth Champs is a podium finish but my eyes and heart are out for gold.

Looking back at the 2018 summer and all the passport stamps I’ve obtained, I know this could not have happened without the help of the ADF and the friendly faces at the RCYC following me along my journey.

So thank you very much to the ADF Committee and everyone at RCYC!
