ADF Update: Galen Richardson, 49er Sailor

Dear ADF Committee,

Thank you for selecting me as a recipient for the ADF fund this past round.

We are currently in Kiel, Germany where my sailing partner, Jake and I will compete in our first European Olympic class event. Kieler Woche is one of the biggest sailing weeks in the world, and attracts world class competition.

We recently transitioned into the 49er this past winter from the 49erFX, which we sailed for a couple months last fall and part of the winter. We are slowly making our way up the steep learning curve of this boat as we learn more and more what it takes to be world class.

After our competition on Kiel, we head to Risor, Norway for the Junior World Championships. We're excited to test our skills against other youth teams our age at this event.

This past winter, as I finished up high school through one online course, we spent two months in Miami training. Part of this was spent with members of the Canadian Sailing Team, and coach Krzystof Kierkowski. During these two months, we were also able to have Head Coach Lauren Laventure come to Miami and coach us for a week.

The support we receive from RCYC through coaching and the ADF fund has been crucial in helping us to achieve our goals and compete around the world. I want to thank those who contribute to the fund for all the support they have given us.

Thanks,

Galen Richardson
