ADF UPDATE: Sam Bonin

Hello RCYC! It’s Sam Bonin here from Bonin Sailing, sharing some of my experiences this past summer with you. This year, I joined the Canadian 49er FX squad alongside the Sail Canada double handed coach, Krzysztof Kierkowski. We travelled and trained in Halifax, Montreal, Rhode Island, Kingston, Oyster Bay and Toronto focusing on developing the 49er skiff scene in Central and Eastern Canada.

My partner and I, William Bonin, participated in CORK OCR (Olympic Class Regatta), where we were able to bring home a regatta win! We are very proud of our efforts and to see success so early on in our transition to the 49er is something we are thrilled about.

This year, I’ve not only grown as a sailor, but also as an individual. I would like to thank the RCYC and the Athlete Development Fund (ADF) for their continued support. I look forward to working with the RCYC through to the 2024 Olympics!

This fall I will be returning to Queen’s University where I am beginning my second year in Apple Math Engineering! I will be training with my Canadian and US training partners. Check out Bonin Sailing on Facebook to keep updated with all the news.
