ADF UPDATE: Tom Ramshaw

This summer has been quite a ride. I went into it coming off a somewhat disappointing season, feeling like I was getting better at a Finn Sailor, but not seeing that reflected in my results.

I spoke with some people who are very important to my campaign and I was able to refocus and get motivated to put in the best preparations possible for my peak event of the season, The 2018 Aarhus World Championships.

After making some slight changes to my approach, I finally felt good and fast going into the event. After the first day of racing despite only sitting in 18th place I started to feel better than ever about my sailing, I could feel something special was about to happen. On the second day of the regatta, I scored a 1, 9, 2 putting me in second overall. It felt like everything was clicking, I was fast and able to execute the strategy I had been working on all season. I continued to sail consistently but ended up making a few mistakes near the end of the regatta and finished 5th overall, which is my best result yet. This was the peak event for everyone on the circuit so to be able to pull that off and earn a 2020 Olympic spot for Canada in the Finn Class was an extremely satisfying way to cap off the season.

That result and the felling of being in the top 3 during the regatta have given me more motivation than ever. Now I continue push hard everyday, always trying to be better than I was the day before and work hard towards being on the top of the podium in Tokyo in two years.
